In cooperation with the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and ICT4D Collective at Royal Holloway, University of London, Wilton Park is organising its 798th Conference on "The Role of New Information Technologies in Development: Becoming and Information Society" from 17-20 October 2005 at Wilton Park, United Kingdom.
Conference participants are encouraged to share their experience and views and discuss questions such as:
Knowledge is more essential for development than endowments of land, labour, natural resources and capital - but how can poor countries become "information-rich"?
How can information and communication technologies ( ICTs ) be applied through tele -medicine, distance learning, electronic commerce, access to public services and transparent government, thus harnessed for development?
How can inequality of access be overcome - can social and digital divides be addressed together?
Information societies are free societies - how can this be achieved?
What can the Tunis round of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) realistically be expected to achieve?
