We are pleased to bring to your attention the International conference "Youth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): Expanding Economic Prospects in Urban Areas - Highlighting Global Lessons, Creating Local Solutions" organized by the Moroccan National School for Architectural Engineering, Rabat Municipality, the Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) and the World Bank ; in collaboration with MedChild Institute and the Middle East and North Africa Child Protection Initiative (MENA CPI). The conference will be held in Rabat, Morocco, during 4th – 6th December 2006.
The conference is intended to discuss the issues faced by youth (12-24 years) in the MENA region, especially those related to their economic prospects and potentials. It is also intended to highlight their needs in urban areas, the characteristics of urban environments that suit them and the roles of urban authorities in tackling youth issues. The conference will also facilitate networking, sharing of experiences and best practices.
The conference is the fourth in a series of international conferences that address children and youth issues in MENA which were organized by AUDI, the World Bank and their regional and international development partners. Those conferences have resulted in tangible results and programs such as the MENA CPI, MedChild Institute. The Dubai Award for Best Practices in Childhood Programs will soon be launched to recognize municipal achievements that serve children and young people.
Knowing your interest in the themes addressed by the conference, we invite you, and your concerned colleagues, to submit abstracts of papers or presentations that address any of the conference themes. Abstracts should not exceed 400 words. They should be e-mailed by April 30th, 2006 to: Youth in MENA Conference Secretariat, Arab Urban Development Institute, e-mail address: email@example.com. A Technical Committee will review the abstracts and forward its feedback by May 30th, 2006.
